I work in the conceptual and historical areas surrounding German idealism with an additional interest in American pragmatism – particularly in the work of Dewey and Sellars.

Hegelian Theory and Pragmatism
After Hegel’s death, Eduard Gans began rethinking Hegelianism. One line of thought following him was Marx. The other line surfaced in John Dewey’s pragmatism and his theories of social democracy. I will be working on that left-Hegelian theory of social democracy with an emphasis on Dewey’s contribution.
