Wes Furlotte is the author of The Problem of Nature in Hegel’s Final System (Edinburgh, 2021). He has written works on Hegel, critical theory, and romanticism on questions in the history of philosophy, metaphysics, aesthetics, and social and political philosophy. He is an assistant professor cross appointed to the Departments of Philosophy, History and Politics, and Literatures, Languages, and Performing Arts at Thompson Rivers University in Canada.

Developing a Category of Surplus Aggression: Social Contradictions and Damaged Subjectivities
This project investigates the apparent excess of aggression emerging across diverse contexts of twenty-first-century social life, and pays particular attention to online experiences. It aims to understand these phenomena not only socio-historically but also holistically, i.e., as expressions of – and responses to – broader social contradictions which shape contemporary forms of subjectivity.
The project draws from the traditions of social analysis that extend from Hegel through Marx and into first-generation critical theory, especially Marcuse.
